Start your digital startup right
The importance of a solid IT structure
A technical vision aligned with the business

Vicens Fayos, in his first startup, tells us: “Never forget these keys”:
- 1
Why is tech strategy key when creating a startup?
If you're about to create a startup, let me tell you something clearly: technology is not just a support tool — it's part of the core of the business. From my experience as a CTO and advisor to digital startups, I've seen how a poorly defined IT structure can cause even the best ideas to fail. Building a digital startup requires a technical vision aligned with the business from day one — not when it "already works".

What is the most common mistake when building an online business?
Many founders think a brilliant idea and a quick MVP are enough. But the truth is, when creating an online business, if there isn’t a solid architecture behind it, every future step becomes more costly and risky. It's not just about coding — it’s about anticipating scalability, security, integrations, and user experience. And most importantly: defining what technology does for the business. Does it automate? Scale? Capture data? Increase conversions?

Why talk to an expert from the start?
As a mentor, I’m often contacted when problems have already exploded. But talking to an expert in the early stage allows you to choose the right tech stack, avoid technical decisions that are hard (and costly) to reverse, validate that the tech approach makes strategic sense, and save months of work and thousands of euros. On platforms like Experthero, you can consult mentors with real experience without going through long or ineffective processes. You can dive deeper into this in the role of a CTO in a startup.

ow to design the ideal IT structure for your startup?
The ideal structure doesn’t exist universally, but there are principles that apply in 90% of cases: a modular architecture that allows growth and change without rebuilding everything; data-driven thinking from the beginning, measuring everything possible; security and privacy as native elements of the design, not added afterward; process automation in marketing, sales, and support integrated with technology; and a suitable base platform, such as evaluating WordPress, Shopify, or custom development if it’s an online store.

What should you be clear about before writing a line of code?
Before launching your MVP, make sure you’re clear about: what your value proposition is and how technology supports it; which digital channels you’re going to use and how they integrate with each other; what data you need to capture in order to iterate quickly; and whether your team has enough knowledge or if you need to consult a mentor. 80% of avoidable mistakes in digital startups are solved before writing a single line of code... if the right question is asked in time.
